ARCHITECTS ACT 1972
COUNCIL OF ARCHITECTURE
The Council of Architecture (COA) is a body corporate by the Government of India under the provisions
of the Architects Act, 1972. The Council consists of members who are
nominated from various institutions of Architects, Engineers and Surveyors, central
government, States and government organisation (PWD, Railways etc.). Besides
maintaining the register of architects The Council of Architecture may
prescribe the minimum standards architectural education require for granting
recognized qualification by colleges or institutions in India. The council can
also prescribe standards for professional conduct and etiquette and a code of
ethics for architects.
REGISTRATION OF ARCHITECTS
Under the provisions
of the Architects Act, 1972 Central government provides a register of
architects for India. In accordance with this act this register of architects
is to be maintained by the council of architects the registrar issues the
certificate of registration to the registered architects. Any reference in any
law to an architect shall be reference to an architect registered under this
act also at the end of two years from the date appointed registered architect gets
preferences for appointment under central or state government or any other
public aided institution or institute recognized by central or state
government.
